    What does the flag of Togo mean?

    The five stripes represent the five regions of Togo. The star represents unity and hope. The colours are Pan-African, but the design is based on the flag of Liberia.

      Represents hope and the country's agriculture.

    • Yellow

      Represents the country's mineral wealth and the belief that hard work will bring prosperity.

    • Red

      Represents the blood shed by martyrs in the struggle for independence.

    • White

      Symbolises peace, wisdom and light.

    History

    Adopted in 1960, it was designed by artist Paul Ahyi. Togo has had five previous national flags, all of which featured the colours green and yellow.
