    What does the flag of Philippines mean?

    The sun's eight rays represent the first eight provinces that sought independence from Spain. The three five-pointed stars represent the three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Uniquely, if the flag is flown with the red stripe on top, it signifies a state of war.
