    What does the flag of Marshall Islands mean?

    The blue field represents the Pacific Ocean. The orange and white stripes symbolise the two main island chains, the Ratak (sunrise) and Ralik (sunset) chains, and also represent courage and peace respectively. The 24-pointed star represents the 24 municipalities, with the four longer points for the major cultural centres.

    History

    Adopted in 1979 when the Marshall Islands became a self-governing nation. The flag was designed by Emlain Kabua, the then-First Lady of the republic.
