    What does the flag of Egypt mean?

    The red stripe represents the struggle against the British occupation of Egypt. The white represents the 1952 revolution which ended the monarchy without bloodshed. The black colour symbolises the past, when the Egyptian people were under foreign rule.

    History

    Adopted in its current form in 1984, the flag is similar to the Arab Liberation flag. The central emblem has changed several times, from a crescent and stars, to the Hawk of Quraish, and finally to the Eagle of Saladin.
